Interesting sessions coming up at the Scout Education and Program Center:

Safe Sitter Instructor Training Course – Saturday, February 25, 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. 
Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program that teaches young adolescents how to handle emergencies when caring for children.  We need instructors to teach our Scouts (and other youth) so they are prepared to babysit, watch younger siblings, or stay home alone safely. This course is for adults who would like to become Safe Sitter Instructors.

 

Outdoor Leader Skills Training -Friday - Sunday, March 23-26 2012  9:00am - 4:00pm

This training is for Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Cub Leaders within a unit. This course covers outdoor skills that you need to teach Scouts skills leading up to First Class.

 Merit Badge Counselor Training   – Thursday, March 1, 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.

[other dates: March 21, April 5, April 18]
This course covers the purpose of the merit badge program, the role of the merit badge counselor, and methods of counseling.  Attending this course will allow you to become certified as a Merit Badge Counselor.

 

First Aid Certification Class – Thursday, February 23, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

[other dates: March 27, April 24]
Attending this course will allow you to become American Red Cross First Aid Certified. A $6 course fee can be paid upon arrival.  There are only 10 spots available in this session, so you must RSVP.  Please see flyer on the Crossroads of America council site for more information

 

First Aid & CPR Certification Class – Saturday, March 3, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

[other dates: April 7]
Attending this course will allow you to become American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid Certified. A $12 course fee can be paid upon arrival. There are only 20 spots available in this session, so you must RSVP. Please see flyer on the Crossroads of America council site for more information

 

CPR / AED Certification Class – Tuesday, March 13, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Attending this course will allow you to become American Red Cross CPR & AED Certified Class.  $6.00 course fee can be paid upon arrival.  There are only 10 spots available in this session, so you must RSVP.  Please see flyer on the Crossroads of America council site for more information

 

Map Reading 101 – Saturday, March 3, 10 a.m. - noon
The course will cover how to read a topographic map, including detailed instruction on how to interpret and orient a map. You will learn about grids, township and range lines, magnetic declination, and map symbols. This course is recommended for adult leaders and parents who need to teach these skills to their Scouts. Leave No Trace Awareness Workshop – Tuesday, April 24, 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.
This training covers how to hike and camp in ways that will make the least impact on the environment. It is recommended for any leader or youth interested in the best methods for hiking and camping in wilderness areas. This course can assist any leader needing to teach , or any Scout wishing to complete, Second Class rank requirement 2 or First Class rank requirement 3.
